Zoo Slicky isn't a big fan of fishing. He actually finds it pretty painful. But it's his grandfather's passion, and Zoo loves his grandfather. And now that Grandfather has disappeared, Zoo would give anything to be fishing together again.

Zoo M. Slicky's parents are pretty okay (as far as parents go) but they have a weird obsession with how everything's supposed to be. They get really wigged-out when things don't go their way.
"Control freaks," Zoo says.
Love from Zoo M. Slicky, belatedly. Oops.
Zoo M. Slicky has some important stuff to figure out, like why his grandfather disappeared, and why is his family so hush-hush about it? They won't ever listen to him when he tries to explain things. And come on, everyone lets their temper get the better of them sometimes, don't they? Zoo's probably just a normal kid, right?
This is Bullwick Barnett. (That's his full name, but nobody ever calls him that). What he lacks in stature he makes up for in meanness. Extra spitty spit-balls are Bull's specialty. He's a total jerk, and at the same time he wants to be friends with Zoo! What the heck?
Ruthie is a year older than Zoo M. Slicky. She acts like she's a lot older, and when she's not busy ignoring him, she's very good at annoying him. But she is Zoo's sister, after all, and is pretty good in a pinch.
Stella Livret can usually be found in the school Library. It's her favorite place to research, and nobody bugs her there. She tends to disapprove of Zoo and his antics, but secretly kind-of likes him. Zoo is more than a little intimidated by her- she's a braniac! And she certainly won't stand for being called 'Livret'.
But he will come to appreciate her more than you can imagine.
And she has a dog who does tricks.
Wishing everyone moments of brightness, from Zoo M. Slicky
Despite the fact that Alexandra Vinyl is a girl (or more precisely because of it) Zoo M. Slicky is dependent on her help in the tasks that lie ahead. You may judge her to be taller than Zoo (in fact she is) but in his eyes they pretty much measure up the same.
Zoo M. Slicky has known Alexandra Vinyl most of his life. She lives a few houses away from Zoo, and is kind of bossy. They used to share a sandbox when they were little kids (that's how he knows she's a pain in the butt). He calls her Vinyl of course.
Thanksgiving is always spent at Grandmother's. Zoo M. Slicky is forced to dress up in suit and tie. Yeesh. And Grandmother has too many rules to enjoy the holidays, but he does get to hang out with his mischievous cousins...who have been known to dangle him off the balcony by his ankles. We hope your holiday is a little less adventurous, and full of family of all kinds.
What better way to introduce characters than by examining their...stature?
We're presenting a series of height comparisons between Zoo and his friends, starting here with Eddie Orvitch.
How tall someone is really isn't all that important to Zoo, but he knows how essential it is for most kids (they need to know how you measure up) so here goes...
